Chet Gordon is a
name that appears extremely frequently on the US label from 1919 or
1920 until 1922, credited with both solo performances and duets with
many other US artists, most frequently Mary Brown and Paul Parnell
(Paul Pratt).
Collectors Ed
Sprankle and Frank Himpsl believe this was primarily a pseudonym of Clarence
Johnson - there is some evidence he was known within his family as 'Uncle Chet'.
They also state a possibilty that the pseudonym was shared by Johnson and Clarence M. Jones,
both active for US Music around this time.
From an incomplete
search the last Gordon roll I can find is May 1922, 'Muscle Shoals
Blues'. He seems to have been much less active during 1922 than
previous years.
No results in
ancestry.com for either Chet or Chester Gordon, however in 1923 a
